Students from Lynch Hill Primary School helped the council launch its 5K fun run at a QuadKids athletics event, hosted by Langley Grammar School this week.
The 5K fun run is set to take place on the same day as the Slough Half Marathon, on Sunday 14 October.
The brand new course starts in the picturesque Salt Hill Park before entering Baylis Park and returning to Salt Hill Park for the finish.
The fully inclusive race is perfect for children, families and groups, and ideal for people at the start of their health and fitness journey. Walk, jog, or run – it’s all about taking part and having fun while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of two of Slough’s most impressive parks.
Entries to the 5K fun run are now open.
Entry costs £5 per adult and £3 per child, with a special family rate available at £10 for two adults and two children.
Runners, joggers and walkers can book their place at Slough’s newest community event online at https://uk.patronbase.com/_TheCurveSlough/Productions/FF/Performances
Entrants must register between 8.30am and 9am at the Salt Hill tennis courts on the day of the race. The 5K fun run starts promptly at 9.15am.
All race finishers will receive a medal and goodie bag on completion of the course.
Participants can receive regular updates and support through the Slough Half Marathon Facebook page www.facebook.com/sloughhalfmarathon or via the council’s Twitter feed using the hashtag #5KFunRun.
People who want to be part of the 5K fun run or Slough Half Marathon but don’t want to run have the unique opportunity to join the dedicated team of volunteers who help make the event happen. They can register their interest by filling out a volunteer application form on the Slough Borough Council website at http://www.slough.gov.uk/leisure-parks-and-events/volunteering-at-slough-half-marathon.aspx
Councillor Rob Anderson, cabinet member for environment and leisure, said: “We are delighted to be bringing a fully inclusive, family friendly fun run to Slough this year. This fantastic community event is open to residents of all ages and offers families the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy exercising together.
“We’d love to see as many of our residents join us as possible, either by running the race or volunteering their time to make the day a true success.
“It doesn’t matter if you walk, jog or run the course. It’s all about joining in and having fun. We want all of our residents to lead happy and healthy lives and that’s why we bring events like the 5K fun run to the town.”
Sally Thomas-Ellis, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: “It’s very important to us that we help as many people as possible to get active, both inside our centres and out in the community. We are delighted to be supporting this event, and encouraging more people in Slough to do just that.
“The 5K fun run is a brilliant way for whole families to enjoy getting active together. It offers a great introduction to mass-participation sporting events and I’d encourage anyone, regardless of their ability, to get involved.”
The 2018 5K fun run is sponsored by Everyone Active and endorsed by the Slough Wellbeing Board.
