Why two wheels are better than four

Transport for Slough is hosting a free event dedicated to all things cycling at Bath Road Central’s Events Plaza next week.

Better by… bike, which takes place on Wednesday, 2 May between 12 and 2pm, will have a range of bikes to try out, from KMX karts, retro choppers, road bikes, electric bikes and tandems; to a rather special smoothie-making bike!

The bike itself sits static but has a blender attached to the back, and the more someone peddles on it, the more energy it generates to blend the fruit concoctions in the maker. So after a sufficient amount of cycling, you’ll be treated to a tasty reward at the end! Fruit is provided, so all that is required from you is peddle power!

In addition to the wide range of bikes to try out, there will be a complimentary bike surgery that you can bring your own bike down to and get checked over.

This event is part of the Better by… campaign, which aims to encourage and enable everyone, young and old, to use this environmentally-friendly mode of transport, while improving their fitness, saving money and time on the daily commute, and, enjoying and exploring new places in the borough.

Savio DeCruz, head of transport and highways, said: “We believe it’s better by bike, so are delighted to host this free event where people can get the chance to test out our quirky bikes and get their own bikes looked at too.

“We are hoping that Better by… bike might also inspire people to make the switch from car to bike, which could help offset the effects of road traffic in the borough; while at the same time improve the environment and health and wellbeing of Slough residents.

“But most of all, we want you to come down, have fun and enjoy everything the event has to offer!”
