Emergency accommodation in severe weather

The council will provide emergency accommodation to rough sleepers during any periods of severe winter weather between 1 November and 31 March. Severe winter weather is considered to be a minimum of three or more consecutive nights at or below zero degrees Celsius.

Other circumstances of extreme weather conditions will be considered on a discretionary basis, please contact our Housing Needs Team on 01753 475111 for clarification.

We urge anyone sleeping rough to register for this provision now, so we can plan in advance. Please register, in person, at:

  • MyCouncil, Monday to Friday, 9am to 10am
  • SHOC/Trinity
  • the Salvation Army in Stoke Road, Slough.

Our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) arrangements mean we can provide assistance to anyone:

  • who is at risk of harm due to rough sleeping
  • including those who might not usually be entitled to statutory assistance
  • including people without recourse to public funds
  • who have made themselves homeless intentionally or
  • without a local connection to our area - the assistance would only be for a very limited period.

If you are concerned about anyone, please call the StreetLink Reporting Line on 0300 500 0914.

If you see a rough sleeper who may need urgent medical assistance, please call 999 first without delay.
